Tolkien Was A Trekker

I was surprised to find that there were several You Tube postings on the equipage of a Beorning Woodsman from the Tolkien novels. It's funny, but aside from their firesticks, the items they carried on their Scouts was identical to what we routinely carry on our Treks. Call it parallel evolution if you must, but the essentials of living on one's own hook haven't changed.

Not everything contained in this Middle Earth Bugout Bivvy would be appropriate for trekking (Really, a reed sleeping mat? Use a piece of buffalo robe or sheepskin!), but the parallels between the two approaches to wilderness survival are remarkably similar.

Just watch your step. You wouldn't want to disturb an entmoot in progress.
